TITLE : Common Questions and Answers about Printing
Printing in ObjectVision
ObjectVision uses the Windows Control Panel to do all of its
printing unlike most Windows applications, which provide a
printer configuration option within their respective programs. If
you are having problems printing a particular document, the
source of the problem can usually be traced to the printer
configuration in the control panel. Common problems: The
document is printing on half of one page and the rest on another
page, the document will not print at all, or control characters
are being printed on the ObjectVision document.
Experiencing Long Delays in Printing
If you are experiencing long delays in printing, or errors in the
actual print out, and you are not on a network, it could be the
print driver in use by Windows. More specifically, the file
(located in \Windows\System) may have been updated by the
manufacturer. You may want to contact Microsoft for the most
current release of the print drivers (released after the original
drivers dated May 1, 1990).
The Document Will Not Print
Select the Control Panel Icon in Program Manager. Once in the
control panel select Printers. The printer dialog box will
appear. Check to ensure the printer highlighted is Active. The
Default printer must reflect the printer you have highlighted
above. If it does not, either double click on the printer name
by using the mouse or highlight the printer you wish to be the
default and press Alt+D.
If you use multiple printers you might want to make all of the
printers active. This will allow ObjectVision to use any active
printer that is highlighted as the default printer.
The Document is Printing on Two Pages
If you find your document is printing on two pages this can most
likely be associated with the scaling option. Try reducing
scaling to a lower number. Select the Control Panel Icon. Once
in the control panel select Printers. The printer dialog box
will appear. Select Configure, then Setup. Try entering a lower

scaling number. One hundred is the default, however, if your
form is large you may want to reduce this to 75.
Printing on a Network
When printing on a Network we suggest you deactivate Windows'
Print Manager. Select Control Panel|Printers and deselect the
Print Manager checkbox field. Print Manager is used to manage
the order in which documents are printed. Most Networks provide
this capability so there is no need to have it done twice, it
only slows down the printing process.
When printing on a Novell Network you need to specify a capture
statement which is used to spool the files that are to be
printed on a network printer. Please refer to your Network
Administration Reference Guides.
If you have any questions concerning preprinted forms please
refer to Technical Information sheet 691.
